A Little Bit About Me
About Me,
My career began in High School at Valley High Country Club, a Member owned property, near Sacramento, CA. After serving in the US Coast Guard and obtaining my Business degree, I found myself back in the Private Club Business with ClubCorp as a Manager in Development. I elected to complete my first year in a role as a Membership Director. Sales are the lifeblood to a club and I knew I had to understand that role inside and out. As a rookie in sales I finished #2 in the company.
My first GM role was a newly acquired club that had some unique challenges. After spending a year as GM, we received the second highest Member Satisfaction scores, second only to “The” Firestone Country Club. My next GM role took place during 9/11. It was a challenging time with concern and uncertainty. With a super team and great members, we were able to buck the trends other encountered and achieve ClubCorp’s ‘Gold Circle of Excellence’ award for 3 years and the first club within ClubCorp to earn the ‘Chairman’s Circle of Excellence’ award.
I served six years as a Regional Club Manager, providing full operational oversight from budgeting to capital improvement. I worked successfully with many Board of Governors to improve the operations and Member satisfaction. I was also responsible for hiring, retaining, and replacing all key leadership positions within the clubs.
I then moved into the VP of Membership Sales role as we prepared to take the company public. I was able to grow and motivate a superstar team of sales professionals that led the company with record Dues Added for multiple years. We drove sales using a streamlined planning and approval process for programs. I have worked with a number of Reinvention clubs and made changes to Member Programming, resulting in Clubs being relevant beyond just golf. I led the Membership side of several new property acquisitions, including Oak Tree in Oklahoma, Prestonwood in Dallas, Blackstone and Black Bear in Denver, as well as the company acquisition of Sequoia Golf.
I then transitioned into the Vice President of Strategic Alliances. This role took on many projects and really gave me the opportunity to experience clubs outside of ClubCorp in a very different and detailed way. I worked with prospective acquisitions, handling the initial onsite due diligence and local market analysis. My job was to create a strategy to grow the property, improve the asset with capital infusion and make my recommendations to purchase or pass to the CEO, CDO and EVP. Once a club was purchased, I coordinated the operational onboarding from the moment the decision to move forward was made, including membership, staffing, and system transitions. I handled single club and portfolio acquisitions. The day we transitioned 7 clubs Toll Brothers clubs in 4 states was the most challenging.
My time with ClubCorp was incredibly rewarding. I made many lifetime friends with the Employee Partners and Members during my 20+ years. I enjoy helping others navigate this tricky business we all love so much. I hope to personally meet you soon.
